Relation Between Lord and the Copyholder His Tenant (1635)

Among the many seventeenth-century works on manorial law, few are as fascinating, or as revealing of the legal mindset of the age, as The Relation Between the Lord of a Manor and the Copy-holder His Tenant. Originally delivered as lectures by the lawyer Sir Charles Calthrope and first published in 1635, the work was republished by The Manorial Society in 1917 as part of its effort to preserve important sources relating to English manorial custom.

The West Family Database Volume I, Howard E. West, Jr

The West Family Data Base is a compilation of records regarding individuals with the surname of West. These records cover the time period from the thirteenth century to the twentieth century and have been compiled from numerous and varied sources. Census, military, family Bible, taxation, immigration records, etc., are represented.

[Text corrupted/illegible in supplied transcription] I have attempted to compile as many records as possible for certain families (see insert). “The West Family Data Base” is the first product of these efforts.

The records contained in “The West Family Data Base” are listed in chronological order, in order to better facilitate the linking of various members of a given family. Every effort has been made to assure the accuracy of these records. When possible, the information has been verified by a second source.

Also, every effort has been made to avoid redundancy while at the same time presenting as much information regarding each individual as possible. When basically the same information is available from more than one source, the information is combined in a single record.

I have attempted to include as much pertinent information — i.e., names of family members, names of localities, and dates — in each record as possible.

When a particular record did not give a date, I have attempted to approximate the date by using the other information given in the record or by referring to another source.

The purpose of this work, therefore, is to aid the student of genealogy or local history by consolidating as much information as possible into a single source.
