GPS Location & Recorded Land Areas

Representative GPS point: 53.9663, -0.5333

Location / boundary notes:

Identity: confirmed — The registry record, TNA/MDR reference F237833, Yorkshire location, and the associated Bainton manor court, rental, survey and map records consistently identify the East Riding of Yorkshire manor at Bainton, not the separately documented Bainton manors in Oxfordshire or elsewhere.
Representative point: 53.9663, -0.5333
Basis: documented_manor_house — Manor Farmhouse at Bainton, identified by Historic England at National Grid Reference SE 96314 53247, is the surviving manor-house/manorial farmstead associated with the Bainton manor records. The site is also identified as Manor Farm, Bainton, in contemporary and modern location evidence.
Point confidence: high
Boundary status: representative_point_only
Boundary period:
Boundary confidence: none
Boundary basis: The surviving evidence confirms the manor's location but does not provide a sufficiently clear, accessible manorial perimeter. The 1608-1609 survey is described as a rental only; the later court and rental records establish manorial jurisdiction but do not themselves define a mappable boundary. The 1779 map reference is associated with the Bainton/Neswick estate material, but the available evidence does not demonstrate that it supplies the complete historical boundary of Bainton Manor. The modern civil-parish boundary and present Manor Farm acreage have therefore not been substituted for the historical manorial extent.

- Manor Farmhouse, Bainton, Historic England list entry 1083828: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1083828 — Provides the surviving Manor Farmhouse location at NGR SE9631453247, corresponding to approximately 53.9663, -0.5333, in Bainton parish.

- Hull History Centre: U DDCV catalogue: https://catalogue.hullhistorycentre.org.uk/files/u-ddcv.pdf — Describes the manor of Bainton, including the 1724-1842 manor material, 1784 sale of the manor, eighteenth-century court records, the 1775 enclosure act, and U DDCV/116/1.
- National Archives record: 1779 map, DDCV/116/1: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/N14305553 — Archive lead for the 1779 map associated with the Bainton/Neswick estate material; available evidence does not establish that it depicts the complete boundary of Bainton Manor.
- Yorkshire Gardens Trust: Neswick Hall: https://yorkshiregardenstrust.org.uk/research/sites/neswick-hall — Uses the 1779 U DDCV/116/1 map to document Neswick Hall grounds and parkland, demonstrating that this map cannot safely be treated as a complete Bainton Manor boundary without further archival examination.
Warnings / uncertainty:
- The representative point is suitable for locating the manor and surviving manor-house/manorial farmstead, but it is not a reconstructed centre of the entire historical manorial landholding.
- No historical manor boundary polygon is returned because the available evidence does not distinguish a complete manorial perimeter from later estate, parkland, enclosure or parish boundaries.
- The 1779 map lead should be inspected directly at Hull History Centre before attempting any future boundary reconstruction.
- The approximate coordinates are derived from the Historic England National Grid Reference and are not intended to imply cadastral precision.
