Source-derived pedigree information
The appended pedigree records a descent of the Thornton family of East Newton through a succession of Roberts and Williams, beginning with Robert Thornton, described as lord of East Newton in 1418, and continuing through the late-medieval and early-modern family. The pedigree connects the later East Newton line by the marriage of William Thornton to Alice Wandesford, daughter of Sir Christopher Wandesford of Kirklington. The pedigree is not identified by Jackson as being copied from a single named heraldic visitation, and secondary discussion notes that its early descents differ from other Wandesford and Thornton pedigrees. The assertions are therefore preserved without attempting a modern reconciliation.

Notes
Bibliographic correction: the volume bears the imprint 'Vol. LXII. For the year 1873' but the title page gives publication year 1875; it was ordered for editing in 1874 and issued as the 1873 Surtees volume. The user label should therefore be normalized as Surtees Society vol. LXII, for 1873, published 1875. The source contains at least two relevant genealogical items: a Wandesford pedigree in the prefatory material and an appended Thornton pedigree between pp. 344–345. The early Thornton succession is not safe to merge wholesale with the 1563–1564 or 1584–1585/1612 Yorkshire visitation pedigrees without a side-by-side transcription. The printed pedigree's use of repeated Robert and William names, and disagreement with other pedigrees, warrants provisional status for most medieval and sixteenth-century links. The Wandesford connection through Christopher Wandesford and Alice is substantially better supported by the autobiography, parish-register evidence and related archival material. Internet Archive provides the digitised volume; the source itself should be inspected page-by-page before promoting the low-confidence intermediate nodes.
