A Lancashire landowner who acquired Thurnham and, in 1557, purchased the former priory possessions including Aldcliffe and Bulk from the Crown. He became the founder of the Dalton estate centred on Thurnham and Aldcliffe.

The grant also excluded certain items, including the lead, bells and advowsons; the entry concerns the manor estate and hereditaments, not necessarily every ecclesiastical appurtenance.
