London solicitor who acquired the Abbey Cwmhir estate in 1822, developed the grounds and commissioned the early nineteenth-century hall. He later emigrated to Australia and became Mayor of Adelaide.

The accessible sources differ slightly on whether acquisition occurred in 1822 or 1824; the CPAT record gives 1822, which is used here.
