Sir Robert Gorges was a Somerset landowner of Redlynch and a Member of Parliament for Ilchester and Taunton. He is directly identified as the purchaser of Alford manor from Simon Court before 1639.

Oxford's Alumni Oxonienses independently identifies a Sir Robert Gorges of Somerset, of Balliol College, who represented Ilchester and was buried at Wraxall in 1636; the dates and biographical details of the individual described in the Alford summary require reconciliation with the underlying records.
