Sir John Zouche of Codnor, Knight, Justice of the Peace, High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, commissioner for musters and subsidies, deputy lieutenant of Derbyshire.
Dates: 1 August 1524–19 June 1586
Biography
Sir John Zouche was a leading Elizabethan Derbyshire landowner and county officer. He succeeded his father George in the Codnor estate and held several local offices, including repeated service as sheriff. His marriage to Eleanor Whalley produced the later Codnor succession and a significant reconnection with the Harringworth barony through their daughter Eleanor's marriage to Edward la Zouche, 11th Baron Zouche.
