Samuel Aylmer was the son of Bishop John Aylmer. He lived at Akenham Hall, held Akenham and Claydon, and served as High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1626.

The date of death is given as 1635 in the Suffolk parish-history material and the legal-history account.
