Richard Shireburne, esquire, lord of the manors of Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley

Dates: seventeenth century

Biography

Shireburn estate holder whose steward's court rolls document the exercise of manorial jurisdiction over Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley in the mid-seventeenth century.

Notes / Sources

The court-roll evidence is stronger for lordship than for the exact beneficial ownership structure.

Research sources:
- Lancashire Record Office, P/128, copy of the Shireburn court-roll book for 1650-1665; summarized in the Historical Society of Lancashire and Cheshire material on the Shireburn rental and related local records. — https://sites.google.com/site/crumbleholmefamilyhistory/ban

The source uses the singular place-name Chaigley, so the transfer must not be expanded into a conveyance of all Aighton and Bailey without further evidence.
