Evesham Abbey, Benedictine abbey of St Mary
Dates: Abbey active at Abbots Morton from before 1066 until the Dissolution in the sixteenth century
Biography
The Benedictine Abbey of St Mary at Evesham was a major Worcestershire religious house and held Abbots Morton as an estate recorded in Domesday Book.
Notes / Sources
Ranulf, brother of Abbot Walter, is named as the immediate lord in 1086, but this does not displace Evesham Abbey's status as tenant-in-chief and ecclesiastical estate holder.
