Landed Hampshire gentleman and brother of novelist Jane Austen. He inherited the Knight estates, including Chawton, and is identified in the Abbotts Barton history as its holder from 1706 until 1811.

The reported 1706 succession appears to concern an earlier Edward Knight in the Knight family; the sources use the name 'Edward Knight of Chawton' without fully resolving the generational identification. The manor connection is retained, but the biographical dates should not be treated as certain for the 1706 holder.
