GPS Location & Recorded Land Areas

Representative GPS point: 53.630406, -1.302943

Location / boundary notes:

Identity: confirmed — The registry record, TNA/MDR record F244122, location at Badsworth in Yorkshire, and the associated manorial records for Badsworth consistently identify the West Riding manor of Badsworth, not a same-named manor elsewhere. The documented Badsworth Hall was the principal manorial residence and later estate centre.
Representative point: 53.630406, -1.302943
Basis: documented_manor_house — Approximate site of the demolished Badsworth Hall, now occupied by Badsworth Court. Local historical evidence identifies Badsworth Hall as the seat of the manor; Historic England separately records the surviving former stable and gatehouse complex immediately south-east of the hall site at NGR SE 46254 15052.
Point confidence: medium
Boundary status: representative_point_only
Boundary period: Unspecified historical manor extent; later estate evidence principally relates to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
Boundary confidence: none
Boundary basis: The surviving references establish that Badsworth Manor had surveys in 1632, 1652 and 1714, court rolls, and later estate plans. A 1926 sale description states that the Badsworth estate comprised approximately 1,560 acres, including much of Badsworth village, farms, accommodation lands and smallholdings. However, the available web evidence does not provide the parcel schedule or a sufficiently legible, manor-specific perimeter map. The 1,560-acre figure is a later estate extent and cannot safely be substituted for the historical manorial boundary.

- Historic England: Badsworth Hall, listing 1372316: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1372316 — Records the surviving former stables of Badsworth Hall at NGR SE 46254 15052 and identifies them as the stables to the former Badsworth Hall.
- Badsworth Village: Village History: https://badsworthvillage.uk/village-history/ — States that Badsworth Hall was the seat of power in the village, that the hall was demolished in the late 1940s, and that its site is now occupied by Badsworth Court. It also records the 1926 sale description of an estate of approximately 1,560 acres.

- Badsworth Hall, Pontefract: Parks & Gardens: https://www.parksandgardens.org/places/badsworth-hall-pontefract — Identifies the demolished Badsworth Hall country-house site at Badsworth Court and supplies the approximate coordinates used for the representative point.
Warnings / uncertainty:
- The representative point is for the documented former Badsworth Hall site, not the centre of the modern civil parish.
- No historically defensible manor-boundary polygon was found in the accessible web evidence.
- The approximately 1,560-acre area recorded in the 1926 sale description represents a later Badsworth estate and should not automatically be treated as the medieval or early modern manorial extent.
- The 1632, 1652 and 1714 surveys may contain sufficient parcel-level evidence for a future boundary reconstruction, but their maps or detailed contents were not available here.
