GPS Location & Recorded Land Areas

Representative GPS point: 54.2923, -1.9833

Location / boundary notes:

Identity: confirmed — The TNA/MDR record F242759 is explicitly for Aysgarth Manor in Aysgarth, Yorkshire. The associated medieval ministers' accounts and court roll references are consistent with the separately documented medieval and early-modern manor of Aysgarth, whose descent is recorded in county-history material. It should not be confused with the distinct manors of Thoralby, Burton-with-Walden, Carperby, or the wider ecclesiastical parish of Aysgarth.
Representative point: 54.2923, -1.9833
Basis: supported_manorial_centre — The point is at St Andrew's Church, Aysgarth, the historic central site of the settlement. County-history evidence identifies the church as having been held with Aysgarth Manor by the Burgh family, making the church site a defensible approximate manorial centre where no documented manor-house location has been established. The coordinates correspond to the church tower/site rather than a surviving manor house.
Point confidence: medium
Boundary status: representative_point_only
Boundary period: Medieval to early modern manor; records extend through the eighteenth century
Boundary confidence: none
Boundary basis: The evidence confirms the manor's location and historical existence but does not provide an accessible manor map, survey plan, mapped rental, enclosure plan, or other source from which the perimeter of the manorial land can be securely reconstructed. The 1,199-acre figure reported for Aysgarth township and the wider ancient-parish descriptions cannot safely be substituted for the historical manorial extent. The manor was distinct from the much larger ancient parish of Aysgarth, which contained numerous other townships and manors.

- GENUKI, Aysgarth Parish information from Bulmer's 1890: https://www.blunham.com/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Aysgarth/Aysgarth90.html — Distinguishes Aysgarth township from the much larger ancient parish and records the historical descent of Aysgarth Manor; it also gives the township area as 1,199 acres, which is contextual evidence but not a proven manor boundary.
- GENUKI, Aysgarth 1890 directory: https://www.blunham.com/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Aysgarth/Aysgarth90Dry.html — Records a property called Manor House in Aysgarth township, but does not establish its precise location or prove that it was the historic capital messuage of Aysgarth Manor.
- Church of Saint Andrew, Aysgarth, Historic England listing information: https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101318439-church-of-saint-andrew-aysgarth — Provides the geographic coordinates for the historic St Andrew's Church site used as the supported manorial-centre proxy.
- Aysgarth, Wikipedia summary citing the Victoria County History: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aysgarth — Summarizes the documented medieval descent of Aysgarth Manor, including its association with the Burgh family and later Crown ownership; used as a lead to the underlying county-history account.
Warnings / uncertainty:
- No defensible historical manor polygon was found in the accessible evidence.
- The ancient parish of Aysgarth covered many townships and separate manors; its parish boundary must not be used as the boundary of Aysgarth Manor.
- The 1,199-acre Aysgarth township area is not treated as the manor's extent because the sources do not demonstrate that the township and manor had identical boundaries.
- The representative point is an approximate historic manorial-centre proxy at St Andrew's Church, not a confirmed manor-house site.
